District of Columbia Concealed Pistol License and Maryland Wear and Carry Permit

Training Options and Cost:

  • DC Concealed Pistol License Training: Only $375 per person
  • MD Wear and Carry Permit Training: Only $375 per person
  • Combined DC and MD Training: Only $449 per person
DC Training Requirements for Initial Application: 16 hours of classroom instruction including DC specific laws on self-defense and 2 hours of range training with a 50 shot shooting qualification.
MD Training Requirements for Initial Application: 16 hours of classroom instruction including Maryland law and range training with a 25 shot shooting qualification.

Classroom Info: We are currently conducting the DC & MD course simultaneously once a month. This in person course is taught by instructors that have been certified by the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department and Maryland State Police to provide the mandatory training required by both DC and MD. Training materials and DC forms necessary to apply for the DC carry permit and to register a carry handgun in DC will be provided. Maryland application submission is done online through the Maryland State Police MyLicense/E-Gov website.

Range Info: The range instruction and qualification will be conducted on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday at the NRA Range in Fairfax, Virginia with available time slots offered between the hours of 12pm and 6pm. We ask that you do not register for this course if you require a time or day that is outside of what is offered. The DC 50 round timed qualification consist of drawing the firearm from the holster and shooting at distances of 3, 5, 7, 10 and 15 yards on a B-27 silhouette target. The MD 25 round timed qualification consist of shooting the firearm from the low ready position and shooting at distances of 3, 5, 7 and 15 yards on a B-27 silhouette target. Both DC and MD require a minimum passing score of 70%. For the range portion of the course students will need a carry gun, two magazines, eye protection, ear protection, and approximately 150 rounds of ammunition. Range fees are the responsibility of each course participant. Students that register for combined training will do both DC and MD shooting qualifications.

Topics covered: Firearm safety rules, handgun mechanisms and operations, home firearm safety, fundamentals of marksmanship, situational awareness and de-escalation, managing unknown contacts, defensive shooting skills, malfunction clearances and tactical movement, registering a firearm in DC and applying for the DC Concealed Carry License, draw from a holster, firearm and equipment selection, firearm maintenance, DC and Federal law regulation the possession transfer and transportation of firearms, ammunition and DC limitations on carrying a handgun, law of self defense and the aftermath of a violent encounter, firearm safes and proper storage of guns, range instruction and live-fire qualification and much more. In addition to these topics covered, we will cover additional topics required by MD in addition to state firearm law with students registered for MD or combined training.

Refund policy: There are no refunds given unless course is cancelled by Capital Defense Instruction LLC. Preregistration and prepayment is required for everyone attending this popular course. Failure to attend the required classroom and range instruction / qualification for which you are enrolled will forfeit any money paid.
